Content Update: Revised content and sequencing for AP® Statistics and AP® Calculus BC, plus new AP® Precalculus FRQ support
In mid-September, Khan Academy is rolling out the first phase of updates to our AP® Statistics and AP® Calculus BC courses, along with new free-response question (FRQ) support for AP® Precalculus.
The AP® Statistics and AP® Calculus BC updates include revised course sequencing and new content designed to strengthen alignment with the official Course and Exam Descriptions (CEDs). Additional exercises, articles, and videos will continue to be added over the coming months.
What’s changing in AP® Statistics?
This first phase of the AP® Statistics update includes:
- a finalized Unit 1
- a new sequence for Units 2–5
- updates designed to strengthen alignment with the AP® Statistics CED
- additional content and resources that will continue to be added over the coming months
Once the remaining updates are complete, all units will include finalized exercises, articles, and videos designed to provide comprehensive coverage of the CED.
The official Desmos calculator is also available now, with additional integration into the course coming in the future.
What’s changing in AP® Calculus BC?
The first phase of our AP® Calculus BC update includes:
- finalized content for Units 1–5
- a new sequence for Units 6–10
- new and revised content designed to strengthen alignment with the AP® Calculus BC CED
- new articles focused on helping students write high-quality responses to free-response questions
Additional exercises, articles, and videos will continue to be added over the coming months as we complete the remaining course updates.
The official Desmos calculator is also available now, with additional integration into the course coming in the future.
Will these updates affect mastery progress?
Yes. Because the AP® Statistics and AP® Calculus BC courses are being revised, some users may notice changes to their course mastery percentages.
These updates do not remove previously completed work or accomplishments.

As additional course content is published in the coming months, users may see another mastery change. We’ll continue updating this article as more specific information becomes available.
New FRQ support for AP® Precalculus
We're also adding four new FRQ articles to the AP Precalculus test support unit.
These new resources focus specifically on helping students understand how AP® Precalculus free-response questions are scored.
Students will find:
- four new FRQ-focused articles
- two example questions in each article
- explanations of scoring criteria
- guided, no-stakes practice evaluating sample responses and scoring parameters
These resources are designed to give students additional opportunities to understand what strong free-response answers look like and how responses are evaluated.
More AP® math updates are coming
The September release is the first phase of the AP® Statistics and AP® Calculus BC updates.
Over the coming months, we'll continue adding and refining exercises, articles, and videos across both courses as we complete their alignment to the official Course and Exam Descriptions.
