Content update: Newly revised OER Project AP® World History is even more aligned, engaging, and supportive
We’ve revised our AP® World History (now known as OER Project: AP® World History) course to better support students and teachers with full alignment to the College Board’s Course and Exam Description (CED), expanded skill practice, and a new writing tool designed to build confidence and clarity.
For students and families: Master world history with the right support
Aligned with the official exam
The OER Project AP® World History course now follows the AP® World History: Modern CED topic by topic. That means every activity, lesson, and skill you practice is directly connected to what you’ll be tested on.
Practice key historical thinking skills
New interactive activities help you explore and apply essential skills like sourcing, contextualization, and claim testing. You will not just learn history—you will learn how to think like a historian.
Get real-time feedback on your writing
Writing Coach, Khan Academy’s new essay support tool, is now integrated into this course. As you draft responses to free-response questions, Writing Coach gives you personalized, on-the-spot feedback to help you strengthen your arguments, improve clarity, and build writing confidence.
For teachers: Aligned content, engaging practice, and writing support built in
Confidence in coverage
The revised course is now fully aligned to the AP World History: Modern CED. Every required topic and skill is covered, making it easier to plan and ensuring your students are preparing with exactly what they need.
Make thinking skills more accessible
We’ve added new and updated activities that help students build core historical thinking skills like sourcing, claim testing, and contextualization. These activities are designed to make abstract reasoning more concrete and to promote deeper classroom discussion.
Streamline writing instruction with built-in feedback tools
With Khan Academy’s free Writing Coach, students receive personalized feedback as they write, directly within the course. Writing Coach helps identify where students are succeeding, where they might need help, and when they are asking for support from Khanmigo. You also get class-level and student-specific reports that highlight patterns, track progress, and flag potential originality concerns—saving time while supporting stronger writing.
