Content update: Introducing Khan Academy’s brand-new Geometry course for Texas (TEKS)
We’re thrilled to announce our new TX-TEKS Geometry course designed to help students make sense of shapes, space, and reasoning through real-world modeling, visual intuition, and formal proof. Whether you're exploring the height of a building or deriving the equation of a circle, this course brings math to life while aligning tightly to Texas standards.
For students and families: Geometry with purpose and power
Model the world around you
This course goes beyond drawing shapes, it’s about seeing structure in everything. You’ll break down complex figures into familiar ones, rearrange and recombine parts, and discover how geometry lets us model the real world in surprising ways.
Right triangles are everywhere
Need to find the distance between two points? Wondering how to calculate the area of a hexagon or derive the equation of a circle? The answer might be a right triangle. You’ll use trigonometric ratios, powerful relationships between angles and side length to solve problems that show up all around us. You might even figure out the height of a building just by knowing the angle you’re looking up!
Build your reasoning superpowers
This course is also about thinking clearly and communicating your ideas. You’ll look for patterns, test out ideas with counterexamples, and develop full mathematical proofs to explain what you know and why it’s true. You won’t just learn geometry, you’ll learn how to think like a mathematician.
For teachers: A new kind of geometry learning experience
- Reasoning, from informal to formal
Students get repeated opportunities to build their reasoning skills: from identifying patterns and forming conjectures to creating counterexamples and constructing formal proofs. This progression helps develop deeper understanding and critical thinking, preparing students for future math courses and beyond.

Constructions that make sense
Instead of simply drawing with tools, students will understand why constructions work. We scaffold each geometric construction with partially completed setups and then lead students through reasoning with triangle congruence and angle relationships to explain what they’ve done. This elevates constructions from mechanical tasks to conceptual learning experiences. -
Connecting past knowledge to powerful new tools
The course draws on what students already know, like area and volume, and helps them extend that knowledge using tools like Cavalieri’s Principle and trigonometry. By modeling complex shapes and solving problems with right triangles, students stretch their intuition and discover how familiar ideas scale up to new challenges.
This Geometry course doesn’t just check off standards, it helps students develop a visual and analytical lens for understanding the world. Whether you’re teaching in a classroom or learning at home, the new TX-TEKS Geometry course brings structure, reasoning, and exploration to the center of math learning.
