Can someone explain why -10 times -7 is equal to -17? Am I doing the question wrong?
Help is much appreciated!

That's not -10 times -7. It's -10 minus 7. If they were asking you to multiply -10 and -7, they would have put parentheses around either number, like (10)-7 or 10(-7).
