Searching for a Program

I too have been looking for a quality way to find programs for quite a while, and have found three ways.

Edward (@efhiii) made a program where you can type in a part of the program's name, and get it. However, this list is quite outdated and is only for programs 2+ years old, I think. Element118 (@element118) has a program similar, so you can ask them too.

The search bar. Sometimes you can search for programs there by title there, and find a spin off or something like that. I think that method might be outdated as well.

The third one is to simply ask around. Saying simply "hey, blah blah, do you by any chance happen to have a link to that blah blah program?" and be on your way.

There you have it! Three ways to access programs by searching! :).

Do you mind saying what you were searching for? Usually this kind of request comes after some form of aggravation from trying to find something.

Because of the astronomical number of programs, any search feature would be a huge undertaking. There are some ways to find all the programs by a user (it uses some simple KA API) but there’s no chance of a search feature by title simply because there are x million “New Program”s, n thousand “My first game!”s, y hundred “Dodge”s and many, many more duplicates. And even finding a user’s projects requires knowing their username or KA ID

Perhaps there could have been such a feature earlier on in the programming section development but it’s too late for them to make something of the sort now.

It’s a little advanced and there aren’t any good tutorials at the moment. If you want to use the data in a program, you need jQuery loaded and some other stuff but you can open the endpoint in a normal window. Pretty much you type in

https://www.khanacademy.org/api/internal/user/scratchpads?username=stranothus&format=pretty

And search it in your browser like a normal link. Right now it has my username (stranothus) but you can put in any username you want and get that users projects. It’s probably a little hard to read but that’s as good as it gets unless you want to learn a good deal of technicalities.
