Hi,

I want to know when and where to add a zero to my quotient when dividing but am struggling. For example, why is it that when you divide 9 by 179 the answer is 19.88 (9 does not go into 1 but 9 goes into 19 and so on) instead of 019.88? However, when you divide 12 by 1 the answer is .0833.

How do I know when to incorporate the 0 into the answer and when not to? Hope my question is clear. Thanks!

I am not an official or anything, but I suppose that I could try to help. I am not sure of exactly what your problem is, but from what I can infer, it seems like this:
- You might be inverting (switching) the numerator (top number of fraction, first number in equation, number that is being divided) and the denominator (bottom number of fraction, number after division sign in equation, number that is dividing).
For example, you are typing into a calculator:

Numerator = 179

Denominator = 9

(179 divided by 9)

179 / 9 = 19.88

But you mean:

Numerator = 9

Denominator = 179

(9 divided by 179)

9 / 179 = 0.05028

Hope this helps. I understand that you are asking about zeroes, but I am not sure that having a zero in the wrong place or anything like that is the problem.
