Assigning Math Courses for High School Equivalency (GED, Hi-SET, TASC) prep Classes & Tutoring
Hey KA team—
I’ve been using your website and app extensively with students in my GED classes for years and I’ve appreciated how Khan Academy has consistently grown and adapted to the needs of learners and teachers. I remember the earlier iterations’ tools for tracking progress for individuals and classes and can affirm how much it has improved.
I do have a request, however…
*Can you add the Algebra Basics & Basic Geometry and Measurement courses to those that are enabled for assigning to classes and tracking progress (as is possible with PreAlgebra)?*
These courses are where I find most of the content I need to cover with my students who are reviewing their math skills and preparing for the GED math exam (or HiSET, TASC depending on the state requirements in the US). PreAlgebra, like the Arithmetic course, is set up so I can assign it to a class and use it for assignments and progress checks. I can have my students add the Algebra Basics and Basic Geometry to their course lists, but I am not able to choose them in class settings. With the current options for assigning courses and setting mastery goals, it works great for PreAlgebra, but I am left looking for cumbersome workarounds to create the most appropriate assignments and view individual progress in basic Algebra and Geometry. The class and I would benefit a great deal if we had this simple fix!
I teach students ranging from age 16 to 24, and their levels vary widely depending on numerous factors such as quality of their previous math instruction, how long they’ve been out of school, and general aptitude in math. It is a great help to have a series of courses that are easy to follow for students re-entering math instruction at different places and working towards mastery at their own pace. I find the Arithmetic and PreAlgebra courses are ideal for this, but as learners progress, the higher level courses are set up more for classes in traditional school settings.
Ultimately, I would love to see a comprehensive course designed for learners and classes who are preparing for High School Equivalency exams, as Khan Academy is already an incredible resources for this population, though it could be even better. Let me know if you ever want some help with this!!
Thanks again for a creating and growing an excellent learning resource.
