Kahn Academy for Non-English speaking students in an English Speaking Classroom.

So, here is my conundrum. My Math class is a unique Microcosm of our school insofar that there is a relatively large number students who have English as a second language, coupled with the fact that many of the students are refugees with back-stories that will break your heart, there are more than a few challenges here.

Chief among them is the fact that many of these students are struggling with a language barrier as well as huge gaps in their overall education, with some having missed up to 5 years, and others starting their education in grade 8.

One solution I want to try is to have the students work on math in their first language, rather than struggling in English -essentially removing at least one stressor from the equation.

Are their online courses available for students to work through that is available in multiple languages? Can assessment be developed in these languages?
