The relationship is that they are equal. They form what we know as the Pythagorean Theorem. There's more to it, and it's incredible how Pythagoras come up to it. It is defined that the square of the hypotenuse of a right-angle triangle squared is equal to the sum of the squares of the two remaining sides of the right-angle triangle.
They are equal. This is because the pythagorean theorem is a^2+b^2=c^2. c meaning the hypotenuse.
