What is the policy on coding groups/clubs?

Hi! A few years ago there were a number of groups and clubs that got together to code. I know that a lot of them got shut down due to generating off-topic chatter among other things. That policy makes a lot of sense, due to KA being a learning resource, not a chat.

Recently, I noticed a few groups emerge that adopted KA's policy regarding on-topic chat that also worked to remind people that the site is for programming specifically. I was thinking of organizing my own group, but I want to stay within the guidelines.

The program guidelines state that "Social groups or clubs, or projects that generate social chats, and other posts not related to coding, in the discussion thread." are not allowed. That seems to suggest that a group that doesn't generate any social chat would be allowed.

Are groups allowed as long as they stay within the updated discussion policies?

Coding groups & clubs are allowed. Yet, if they do get off topic and a Guardian notices, they may get shut down.

So if you do continue on with the groups that you have made, try to make sure that the discussion is on topic as much as possible.

Hey Stephen,

As CodeXRed said above you are allowed to make a coding group/club as long as they are within the KA Community guidelines.

I have created a project that brings the booklovers to one place to discuss books and find new ones. It has been hidden from public view twice, no reason said. Does anyone know why?

To further clarify on this post:

Coding groups (users who work together to collaborate on projects) are allowed. The discussions should take place in a dedicated workspace or on the group project page itself. However, excessive chatter about other topics may lead to comments and/or the projects being hidden.

Discussion groups (groups that discuss or share content not related to coding, or whose primary focus is discussions and not creating projects) are NOT allowed per our guidelines and will be removed from public view. This is to keep our programming community focused on programming and avoid off-topic social chatting (i.e. this isn't a social media site).
