I teach special education at the middle school level. I use engage NY and reinforce student learning using Khan academy. I would rather that student's not know what grade level they are working at. It is frusterating for 8th graders to know they are working at a 3rd grade level. Is their a way to change the big "3" or whatever grade level they are working at so that it is not obvious to my students.

Thanks for sharing this valuable feedback! I definitely understand how frustrating this can be, and I've forwarded this request to the team for consideration as we continue to improve our learning platform.
While there is not currently a way to change the names of the courses, there may be a few potential workarounds in the meantime.
Most of the content found in the Engage NY courses can be found in other courses that are not labeled by grade level. For example, the videos in Engage NY 3rd Grade can also be found in the Arithmetic course. There are a lot more videos in the Arithmetic course, which may be distracting to the students, but if you assign the content to them using the assignments feature, this may help them stay on track.

Hi Julie. I teach the same as you do and have the very same issues. Also, I struggle to smooth over those young references which are sometimes made when a video lesson is happening. (i.e. the instructor will refer to an age or grade level when introducing a skill.)
It would be awesome if Khan could come up with a SpEd math program targeting older age groups with lower level math skills. This is a HUGE NEED! Our district has purchased Freckle.com for math so I may be transitioning to use this program as a core resource. I really do like Khan Academy though.

This is an excellent post. I am a SpEd teacher in NJ and I have the same problem. So many sites publish grade level so the students can see it and I am very conscious of this. It is hard to build confidence in students when we label their work this way. I hope something can be done.

I also work with high school students with special needs. Some of the students have missed considerable school time over the years in their education. The students are hyper-aware of the Math grade levels and some of them struggle with anxiety and depression.
Some of the students have not reached the point where they are willing to work on "lower grade" level material. Some of the students treat the pre-requisite material as punishment. They continue to struggle with PreAlgebra and Algebra concepts.
