Please do not retire courses
I have recently decided to study music, and the I was intending to learn the basics from the Khan Academy music course. I was a bit dismayed to find that I only have two weeks in which to study this course before it is taken down.
I am home educated and have used Khan Academy for a number of years. I think it is a wonderful resource. It provides a lot of information in an efficient and fun way. While maths is clearly the main focus of the site, I have found the other courses to be beneficial as well. Khan Academy differs from many other websites because it places the focus on understanding and knowledge for it’s own sake. This enables and facilitates people who are pursuing a different path though education.
I understand the restrictions and difficulties of maintaining so many courses, and that adding to the mathematics course is a good idea, but at the moment, when so many learners are restricted to online study, all educational resources are going to be useful to someone. There are alternative websites that could be used to study the same subjects, but I have found Khan Academy to be about the best of them.
If the main focus of Khan Academy is maths, then the choice to remove the maths for fun and glory is a bit peculiar, as it highlights the fact that maths is an interesting and fun subject.
While I understand the importance of maths, I respectfully suggest that music, health and medicine, and arts and humanities are no less important.
