What prep materials does Khan Academy Official Praxis Core Prep include?

The prototype includes extensive prep across Math, Reading, and Writing. 

Math 

• Over 1000 practice questions covering all the skills tested, including Number and Quantity, Algebra and Functions, Geometry, and Statistics and Probability skills.
• Explanations for every question, with thousands of tips and hints to help you boost your score.  
• Diagnostics and timed mini-quizzes
• Dynamically updated personalized recommendations about what skills you should focus on practicing.
• Worked example videos created by Khan Academy founder Sal Khan for every Praxis Core question type.
• Help articles for every skill tested
• 2 full-length timed practice tests. These are official practice tests from ETS that will give you estimated scores on a scale of 100-200.

Reading

• Over 200 reading passages with questions just like those you’ll see on test day.
• Help articles and worked example videos to help you approach every question type in the test, including:
• Main point
• Supporting evidence
• Author’s tone
• Organization
• Words-in-context
• Inferences
• Explanations for every question, with hundreds of tips and hints to help you boost your score.  
• 2 full-length timed practice tests. These are official practice tests from ETS that will give you estimated scores on a scale of 100-200.

• 2 full-length timed practice tests. These are official practice tests from ETS that will give you estimated scores on a scale of 100-200. These practice tests include an essay component in which you will provide a self-assessment that contributes to your estimated score.

Can I use Official Praxis Core Prep for all three subjects (Math, Reading, Writing) of the Praxis Core? 

Yes! Official Praxis Core Prep has personalized practice for all three subjects of the Praxis Core. You can use the product regardless of whether you’re taking the three subjects together, taking them separately, or retaking any subject(s). 

I’m taking the GACE PAA. Can I use Official Praxis Core Prep to prepare for it?

The practice content available on Official Praxis Core Prep covers the same skills that appear on the state of Georgia’s GACE PAA. However, we do not yet provide support for GACE PAA’s grading scale. 

How authentic are the questions on Khan Academy Official Praxis Core Prep?

Khan Academy’s content team collaborated with ETS, the makers of the Praxis exam, to create questions that mirror the standards, phrasing, and complexity of questions you’ll find on the test. In addition to the two full official practice tests, we’ve also incorporated hundreds of additional authentic questions we received from ETS into the rest of the practice experience.

I’m seeing questions repeat while I practice—what do I do?

We’ll continue to work with the ETS to add more content, so over time you'll see fewer repeat questions within a skill. In the meantime, you can select a different difficulty level using the dropdown menu next to the “Start task” button to access new questions.

How can I review my past work?

All past work is reviewable at any time! Scroll up on the left side menu in the Practice tab to locate past tasks. When you’ve found the relevant task to review, click on it, and then select review in the right menu to go back to it!

How can I skip between questions in a full exam?

At the top of the screen in a full exam, you’ll see an option to “See all questions”. Select that to drop down a menu of the questions in the section - clicking on any of those questions will jump you straight to that question!

I was accelerated past a stage, but I don’t want to move on—what should I do?

All practice content is available to you at every stage! So, accelerating to the next stage does not mean that you will skip past content or questions that you won’t have access to in the next stage. The acceleration is an indication of how close you are to taking the next practice test and achieving your sub-goal!

How does the system determine what I should work on?

The system will always order your top recommended skills from top to bottom on the practice tab. The recommendations are based on your past performance in the task and how frequently the skill shows up on the exam. The recommendations are updated after every single practice task you do!

What is the difference between the diagnostic, the practice tasks, the full exams, and the timed mini sections?

There are four types of tasks you will see on Official Praxis Core Prep.

Diagnostics: These are only taken once at the beginning of your practice to initialize the system. We encourage you to answer each question to the best of your ability to give the system a good understanding of where your strengths and weaknesses are. You can pause these at any time, and come back to them with all of your progress saved. You will be able to review what you got correct or incorrect and why after you’ve submitted the diagnostic.

Practice tasks: Practice tasks are short tasks based on a specific topic you might see within the Praxis Core. If you’re ever stuck or need additional guidance in how to approach these questions, you can access help material relevant to that question directly below the question. You will also see whether you got the answer correct or incorrect after each question, so you can take the time to review the materials and learn that concept.

Timed mini-sections: Timed mini-sections are typically half-section long, timed practice tasks. They may cover a range of skills, and warn you when you’ve run out of time. At that point, you have the option of trying to finish the questions untimed before receiving the answers.

Practice tests: Practice tests are meant to simulate the actual experience of taking the test on test day. Practice tests do not let you go over time, though you can pause them and come back to them later.
