Can I sort my roster?

When I went into my Roster, and I hit "edit display name" student names and added a number (e.g. 3Ben, 2Marjorie, 1Erica) -- the names automatically reordered into 1, 2, 3.

Is that what you are trying to do? I didn't encounter the issue that you did.

If you are trying to sort students into groups that all correspond to the same class period try the following:

1 (Name of student in 1st period)

1 (Name of another student in 1st period)

1 (Name of another student in 1st period)

2 (Name of student in 2nd period)

2 (Name of another student in 2nd  period)

2 (Name of another student in 2nd period)

etc.

The default sort will by first by the number, and then alphabetically after that. In other words all of the 1st period students will appear before the 2nd period students, and each group will be in alphabetical order according to how you have entered their names.

This is a new issue for me too. Last year the roster automatically sorted by the name I assigned (I use my period number as well), However, about a week ago it stopped doing that. Has there been a change? Maybe I am missing a new feature that allows you to choose the sort order?

Hi Liz,

Are you still experiencing troubles with sorting your roster? If so, are you seeing the small arrow icon next to the "Student Name" heading? If the roster isn't being automatically sorted, you should be able to click that arrow to sort the roster.

A few days ago my roster was sorted by the display name. Today it's sorted by the user name. There's no arrow next to the display name to allow me to sort this way. I only have 60 students, so setting up their display name to match my gradebook is not too much of a chore. Does anyone know how to sort by the display name?
