hypotenuse of an oblique triangle

For an oblique triangle, trigonometric ratios do not apply. This include the law of sines. Also, oblique triangles cannot have a hypotenuse. A hypotenuse is defined as "The longest side in a right triangle."

With a line perpendicular to the base of the triangle, the oblique triangle is divided into two right triangle and then we can "apply" the law of sines.
