connecting accounts

I have followed all the advice in the community but my child's account on my phone will not connect to the account i set up on my computer. I have logged in and out repeatedly. I never get the email that is supposed to connect either. I don't know what more to do. Both accounts are registered to the same email so I am confused how logging in and out and sending emails to the same account is supposed to work anyway. Is there a way to just connect the accounts for me?
