Basic Geometry

Did you get a response to this from Khan Academy? I am very interested. There are Common Core standards that they have here in the "Geometry" ciriculum, but that I cant assign to students to practice. Hmmm.

Hello all! While you are correct that Basic Geometry is currently not available to assign as a mission it is still available for users to work through. The Khan Academy staff have been made aware that users would like this made into an assignable mission. You can assign any and all of the Basic Geometry content to your students. Assigning quizzes or tests is the same as assigning content, except you click the title link to assign a specific test or quiz. When you click on a practice, video, quiz, or test the Assignments bar should appear above the practice or video window. It's avail as a mission now, but the most frustrating thing is that it isn't added to the list of courses.

It's clearly under the "Math" category, but not in the main drop down menu, and just not able to be added as a subject for a class, or be assigned as work.

The content is there, and it can all be worked on, but we just can't track it through our classes!

Hello Sam! So you can choose High School Geometry as a mission when you go into the Settings of a class and Change course but I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for as Basic Geometry. I'm forwarding this post to an internal thread for 2 reasons: 1) To make sure its not just an oversight on the part of the Khan developers and 2) To point out a possible bug when you do choose High School Geometry as a mission the content available to assign is Arithmetic. The Basic Geometry section is a separate, and distinct section from the Geometry content.  The material is substantially different.

You can find it, from the main drop down menu, by CLICKING Math, then seeing it between the Arithmetic and Pre-Algebra sections.  However, it does not exist in the drop down menu itself, and more importantly, cannot be assigned as a class topic in the Teacher Dashboard.

This means that a teacher is completely unable to monitor progress or assign content for Basic Geometry.  The material is very useful for the class I am teaching, but I think the omission from these two sections is an oversight from the developers.  Please let them know as soon as you can, and hopefully they can update their site so I can at least monitor the progress of the Basic Geometry section

I am also VERY interested in assigning BASIC geometry as a section to several of my students. I was thrilled to find it as a Math section, because High School Geometry was not what I was looking for and this is... yet it is frustrating that I cannot assign it as a mastery goal. I hope this option will be available soon! I have some students who "want" to work over the summer and this would be an excellent path for them.

Homeschooling mom here, and I'd also like to be able to assign "Basic Geometry" to my students.

I have found that I can assign lessons, quizzes, tests, etc. from the Basic Geometry section if I include The World of Math as a course in my Class through the settings feature. It is a workaround that works for now. :)

I, too, am looking for Basic Geometry to be added as an assignable course! It's 4/23/20. Is there something about the design of Basic Geometry that is prohibitive to adding it? Is a lot of work, importing, or coding, a factor? I'm wondering why because there seems to be no movement on this topic.

Basic Geometry is just that; it cuts to the many core ideas of geometry and allows students to familiarize themselves before adding more difficult concepts.

I used PMA Mentor's workaround and it worked beautifully!  Add The World of Math as a course, and then Basic Geometry pops right up!!

I can't find the World of Math course anymore. We REALLY need to be able to assign Basic Geometry as a course so we can track their mastery. Why doesn't Khan allow us to do that? We are going full board mastery learning at our school this year through Khan and our students have LOTS of gaps. Our geometry teachers really need to be able to work them through the Basic Geometry course to fill those gaps. PLEASE, please, please make it so we can add the Basic Geometry course to our classes.

Agreed to all of the requests above! Please make "Basic Geometry" a course on its own so that it can be added to students' learning paths so teachers can track students' progress. I also tried to work around that another user suggested, but, as stated above, the "World of Math" course is no longer an option.

I'm beginning to think this might be a programming error (that "Beginning Geometry" has been accidentally omitted from the Teacher course-selection list, because it is showing up in the Student self-selection list). See below...

Honestly, the fact that this thread is still active after 5 years is pretty nuts. It's very clearly a programming error of the site. I hate to say that either these community posts aren't actively monitored (maybe unless they have a certain threshold of posts), or there has been too little pressure put on the dev team to do anything about it.

At this point I've sort of given up on hoping for this to be resolved. And I won't really push my kids to use KA nearly as much moving forward. I've found there are other easier to use (and more responsive when it comes to fixing problems) sites and platforms out there today.

Please ADD    BASIC GEOMETRY!

So hard to add these one at  a time... and students (and us teachers) have no access to course mastery challenge data.

This is a perfect remediation course for students who are taking credit recovery and are reluctant to work.  It is presented in an easy-to-master sequence without sacrificing rigor.

I agree!  Still an issue on 11/9/20.  Please add Basic Geometry to we can assign in to our students.  Thanks!

How has this problem not been solved? It is 03/16/21 and I still can't assign the Basic Geometry Course to a course on my dashboard. When will this be sorted out??

I am a bit confused why it has not been addressed as well. It is a bit frustrating that my student can choose it as a course, yet I cannot assign it.

I'd love to see Basic Geometry assignable to a class on the teacher side!

Has there been any progress on this topic? Would love to see Basic Geometry added!
