Request for a Curated Khan Academy Open Educational Resources Portal/Database
For plenty of people Khan Academy is their first real taste of free and accessible self-paced learning. Many of those who use Khan Academy, however, don't know about the plethora of free education resources that are available on other websites.
Creating a Curated OER Portal/Database would have the following benefits
1. Bring awareness to high quality OER resources (I'm mainly envisioning textbooks)
2. Bring accessibility to OER resources that you may need to otherwise scour across the web to find.
3. Provide an obvious alternative to watching Khan Academy videos, giving students who don't quite click with a course's videos another avenue to learn.
4. Improve the breadth of scope of material that Khan Academy could provide its userbase with. For instance, I could search for OER materials related to real analysis or Spanish and have something pop up, given that Khan Academy would support searching for materials that are outside of their course offerings.
If Khan Academy was to have a more limited implementation of this kind of database, maybe partnering with these guys (https://oercommons.org/) to provide materials related to a specific course offered by khan academy would be a good idea?
Hopefully this was a useful suggestion. If it wasn't (or somehow if it was already here(excluding the accreditation in some chem videos that ref openstaxs)) then let me know.
Also this site is really minimalistic! I love how decluttered it is, and I'm curious how this should/would be implemented to be obvious, accessible, and unintrusive (not messing with the minimalistic layout).
Also sorry for the odd username
