1000
First off, I'd like to thank the awesome content creators here at KA. You've been able to create a stellar computer programming environment. Thank you for all of your hard work.
My content request is pretty simple, and I think it should be pretty easy to add, but I'm not incredably familiar with website design, so I'm not absolutely sure.
The 1000 Kelvin badge is a highly sought out badge, it promotes a user's reputation in the KACS community, but the point reward it gives is quite small. A user can earn 1000 points(the reward of the 1000 Kelvin badge) in a matter of minutes, by simply watching two videos, or completing a few math skills. It can take hours to create a program that will get to the top of the hot list, so it makes the 1000 Kelvin badge seem worthless in comparision to the work put into a program.
So, how would making the 1000 Kelvin worth several thousand EP's more help the KACS community?
1. It would draw more people to programming.
By making the badge worth more, the people on KA who try to earn tons of energy points will be drawn to that badge, and will probably invest more time learning computer science.
2. The standard of the Hot List will go up.
With more people being drawn to the Hot List and trying to create 1000 Kelvin worthy programs, people will have to improve and innovate their programming skills.
3. Khan Academy will benefit.
With more people programming, more people will be told about the KACS community, drawing in more donation funds, meaning KA will be able to improve its site even more, and salaries could be raised.
It is for these reasons that I recommend the point value of the 1000 Kelvin badge be raised by several thousand energy points, a fairly easy task.
Thanks for your time.
