Handwriting feature in iPad app for answering questions

Please, on the iPad app give an option to answer questions WITHOUT having to use the handwriting feature. It does not handle certain things well... for instance nth roots or lower-case letters vs upper-case letters etc. If a letter is close to a number it also doesn't work... for instance l vs 1. This isn't just about getting questions correct. In some cases it won't even let me advance and I have to use the iPhone app to get past the question. PLEASE get rid of the handwriting REQUIREMENT. Why can't there be a feature to use a calculator type input like on the iPhone or even in the iPad app for review sections. This is beyond frustrating and makes me want to stop using the app.

Seriously! At least have an autocorrect-type pop up with similar symbols. I downloaded this for the purpose of learning algebra, and every time I have to write an S or an s or a 5 (and then all of those again as exponents) it consistently interprets it wrong. I and i and 1, not to mention trying to write division equations when the box automatically zooms in, preventing me from underscoring what I've written. I'm giving up on this app for now - hopefully they fix it!

Yes, please! I like using the calculator-like popup that comes up for the review quizzes. And what is the purpose of the icon in the bottom left corner that, when I touch it, I see a menu along the left with several colored circles but no help item to let me know what they are, If they are meant to let me enter the handwritten stuff better, I don't know how to use them!

I had this problem regarding entering a root greater than two just today. In my case, it was a 5th root. In frustration, I finally entered the item in parentheses instead of the root sign and then stuck a "(1/5)" superscript above the closing parenthesis. It worked! It stayed as a superscript, and since the rest of my answer was correct, I got the whole thing right.

I can’t operate the handwriting feature so I was stuck, too. Then I discovered that the website let’s me use the equation keyboard to enter my answers.

What's the equation keyboard? Is this the keyboard that pops up when I do practice exercises in the articles/worksheets? That is not available for the starred practice exercises/quizzes in the iPad app.

The equation keyboard is available on the website version, but apparently not on the ipad app. If you are having trouble with the handwriting feature on the app, try logging into the website instead.

If you need to type a division operation in the iPad app, write it with / or in fraction form with a dash separating the numerator and denominator.
